I. Descripition of Ladle Refining Furnace (LRF)

The Ladle Refining Furnace (LRF) is a key secondary steelmaking equipment used to refine molten steel, positioned between primary steelmaking and continuous casting within the EAF–LF–VD/VOD–CCM production route. It enables precise control over the steels chemical composition, temperature, and impurity levels. The LRF operates by injecting gases like oxygen, argon, or nitrogen into the molten steel, which aids in removing impurities such as sulfur, carbon, and excess oxygen. Alloying elements can be added to adjust the steel’s composition for specific applications, including stainless steel and high-performance alloys.
